    Happy with my purchase.

I use this for the Time Machine Backup. I was using my network drive via WIFI on my Time Machine. Backing my MBP with a SSD enable me to have Backup on the road. The total usable space on the 500GB SSD is 499.76 GB before the backup. The first thing I noticed was that the Time Machine Backup wiped this SSD and formatted it to Mac OS Extended aka HFS+. The first backup usually takes a long time. When I launched it, I had a notice that it would take 3 hours but it quickly changed to 2. I did not time the time it took, I think the Time Machine Backup only took about an hour or less to backup 130.89 GB. This is a fast SSD.I have a Samsung T3 500GB SSD and the usable space is 500.09 GB. However, I think this SanDisk 500GB is a better buy due to the USB connector and ruggedized features being water and dust-resistant in additional to shock-resistant.This San Disk will be used often and travel with me along the Samsung. One is to back up my MBP and the other is used to store and transfer files.PROThis SSD is light weight and seems to be rugged.Fast Speed. The provided USB connector is a well-designed. It can be switched to USB-C to USB-C to USB-C to USB-A via an adaptor. This adaptor is well integrated.CONThere is only a minor one. There is no indicating light to show that this SSD is connected.

Fast, small, rugged, reliable, power by computer, includes cable for Thunderbolt and USB

Feels like a rugged high quality enclosure: soft rubber on back and edges. Includes 6 inch Thunderbolt cable and an adaptor that converts the Thunderbolt to standard USB-3 connector.I purchased the SanDisk 2TB Extreme Portable SSD to store movies and photos so that the internal drive on computer does not fill up. When using iMovie and iPhoto applications I do not notice any slowdown with the data stored on SanDisk. The SanDisk is directly connected to iMacPro via a Thunderbolt port.I did a speed test by duplicating a 33Gbyte file on my internal drive and comparing that with duplicating the same file on the SanDisk portable SSD. Duplicating a file involves lots of read and lots of write so seems like a good test for memory. Results are 65 seconds on the internal drive and 221 seconds on the SanDisk. The internal drive is a SSD on iMacPro so not surprising that it is faster as it is a fast machine and there is no additional serial communication as required for SanDisk Portable. For the SanDisk test it was plugged directly into a Thunderbolt port on the iMacPro.

    Excellent Portable SSD

This is a great little portable SSD. I’ve almost exclusively used Sandisk flash drives for the past 15 or so years with few issues. It is amazing how much the price per GB has become and while I was somewhat interested in this drive when I first saw it, the $300-$450 asking price for the TB was a bit too much to get be to buy one. When I saw it on the prime day sale for $200 I knew I wanted to pick it up.It’s very small in size and as you can see by my picture it is about 5x the size of a regular Sandisk flash drive. It is very basic and I don’t think I see any lights come on but it has one USB C port and it comes with a short male USB C to male USB C cable with a USB C to USB 3.0 adapter.I didn’t buy this specifically for speed but using the USB C to USB 3.0 on a computer with USB 3.0 has been about as fast as expected for both read and write speeds. I won’t likely be doing a speed test but if you’re interested you can find them online and just know that it will be speedy and much faster than the old HDD or USB 2.0 drives.I bought this in part to back up my photos of my baby and even with the RAW photos I should have more than enough room for years to come. I don’t know that I prefer this to a flash drive because the capacity is already comparable and you get a much smaller package. Also in a few years they will likely have larger capacity flash drives with comparable speeds and a similar if not better price point. I am a fan of Sandisk and am impressed with this little drive. The current price is $250 which would probably deter me still but if you can find one for $200 I think that’s a great deal and can recommend it.

    Great external drive

I have a lot of hard drives, most of them 'standard' not SSD, they don't travel well and I wanted some thing small and fast for external shoots where there is thousands of large RAW and JPEG images to transfer. This works a dream, I dont know if it meets the advertised speeds but the file transfer is noticeably faster than other drives I've used. The drive is light and compact. It connects via USB C, and comes with a double ended USB C cable. There is also an adapter USB C to 'big USB. This cabe is quite short but you can swop it for a standard USB C cable of a longer length. The iMac read the drive no problem as did my Windows 10 Surface pro, and even my Samsung Note 8 read it straight away and allowed transfer of photos via the gallery.1TB capacity plenty big enough for a one day shoot

Amazing they can fit 500gb with 400mb transfer speeds into ...

I can't believe how small this thing is. I was expecting it to be twice this size. Amazing they can fit 500gb with 400mb transfer speeds into something that can fit into the tiny pocket in my jeans.
